Stop yo-yo dieting in menopause

 

Yo-yo dieting occurs when weight is constantly going up and down and can be a very frustrating experience.  After months of hard work losing weight it starts to gradually creep back on and a few months later you find yourself back to where you started from.  The reason for this is that most diets just don’t work.  They may help you to lose a few pounds in the short term but as soon as they are finished weight starts to be regained because most diets do nothing to educate people about the long term changes that need to be made to diet and lifestyle to make weight loss permanent.

 

 

To stop yo-yo dieting and make weight loss permanent in the menopause a number of changes need to be made to eating habits and lifestyle.  It is possible to lose weight without actually going on a diet, simply make better food choices and focus on eating healthier and weight loss will follow.

 

When you are trying to lose weight it is important to choose liquid calories wisely.  Fizzy drinks and alcohol contain a large number of empty calories that do nothing to fill you up.  Replacing them with water is an easy way of saving hundreds of calories each day.

 

 

If it’s not brown put it down.  Switching to wholegrain foods such as brown bread, pasta and rice will give your diet more fibre and these foods keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Eating more produce acts as a natural appetite suppressant.  Bulking up your meals with fruit and vegetables leaves less room for other foods and provides a good source of vitamins and minerals.

 

 

As we get older it is a good idea to trim portion sizes by 15-20% as we need fewer calories each day.  Eating more calories than we need each day is the leading cause of weight and most people do not adjust their diets as they get older, because getting older doesn’t necessarily mean you desire less food! Now please don’t misunderstand me, all of the above is excellent advice but there is ONE more Special Secret I want to share with you, and it has to do with Your Relationship with food!
