End weight gain in menopause

Many women find that they start to gain a few pounds in their 40’s and 50’s even though their diet has remained largely unchanged.  This weight gain can be hard to lose and tends to accumulate around the abdomen area.  The average woman gains between 1-2 pounds each year during the menopause and ending or reversing this weight gain can be difficult but it is possible by having a healthy diet and remaining  active.

Gaining weight can have serious health implications and is associated with higher rates of blood pressure and cholesterol, higher rates of diabetes and heart disease as well as some forms of cancer.  Women who gain 20 pounds or more during menopause have a 20% greater risk of developing breast cancer.

Unfortunately there is no magic way of preventing weight gain as we get older, or maybe there is?.....  The key to ending weight gain and maintaining a healthy weight are the same as at any other time in our lives- a healthy diet and plenty of exercise, Plus one other thing! Namely your relationship with food! Are you a comfort eater? Does eating fill a void in you that would otherwise be empty? Do you use food as a tool to swallow emotions to painful to release? There is an answer to all this, leave your details in the box below and receive your FREE instant download of my “Essential Weightloss in Menopause Guide”!

One of the best ways of controlling weight is by increasing levels of physical activity.  This needn’t involve starting a formal exercise program, simply walking for half an hour each day or going swimming twice a week will help to burn calories and strengthen the body.

As we age we need fewer calories each day and people in their 40’s should look at reducing their daily calorie intake by 200 to maintain a healthy weight, obviously you also need to take lifestyle and activity levels into account. The amount of fat in the diet should be reduced and should make up no more than 25% of daily calorie intake.  Look at replacing bad fats and saturated with healthy fat from sources such as olive oil, nuts and fish.
